A provocative question: is photography art? Stop and think about it for a moment. Perhaps the biggest struggle that photography has faced as a medium historically is to be taken seriously as a form of art. A combination of repeatability and accessibility of photographs has been the reason for this doubt. But in the age of digital photography, World Wide Web and Instagram, images have acquired not only a new level of proliferation but also meaning and purpose.
Artsome 101 is back with its series of DIY online courses. This time to explain and understand photography as art and for itself. For “Decoding Contemporary Photographers” we will be discussing some of the most significant contemporary photographers from the subcontinent who have stretched the artistic limits of the medium, expressed varied emotions and put it to different purposes.
